             Endless Mountain Rails:

The 2010 NRHS Convention

To many, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania is considered the heart of Anthracite Coal country. In June of 2010, it was also the host to the National Railway Historical Society's annual convention, based out of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Penn Rail Videos is proud to bring you the official video for this historic event.

We'll first follow a pair of Delaware & Hudson-painted GP38-2s, as they lead the first scheduled passenger train from Scranton to Sunbury in over 50 years. It only gets better, as we explore Wayne County by following a rare BL-2 diesel locomotive on the Stourbridge Line, home of America's first railroad. A visit to Anthracite country isn't complete until one visits the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine, and takes a ride behind one of the few Anthracite Coal-burning steam locomotives in the world.

We'll then follow not one, not two, but three ALCO RS-3s over the former Delaware Lackwanna & Western Railroad as they head east on the Pocono mainline route. Canadian National Mikado #3254 will perform runbys at Tobyhanna station on the westward trip to Scranton.

Steamtown operated Canadian Pacific 4-6-2 #2317 on the 'Scranton Limited' train rides. #2317 is soon scheduled to go down for its 15-year rebuild, and this event will be one of the last it operates at for quite some time.

The finale trip of this event was a steam-powered excursion over the Reading & Northern Railroad, featuring 4-6-2 #425. Painted in a stunning blue and gold paint scheme, she'll lead passengers over a good portion of the Reading & Northern Railroad system. Once in Port Clinton, passengers will be able to tour the facilities, and even get a look at ex-Reading T-1 4-8-4 #2102 out on display.

You'll see all kinds of action throughout this DVD which will be displayed entirely in HIGH DEFINITION, and features narration, subtitles, and surround sound. Order your copy of "Endless Mountain Rails: The 2010 NRHS Convention," today!

Reading & Northern:

Steam Through the Fall Foliage

On Sunday, October 18th, 2009, the Reading & Northern Railroad ran a steam-powered excursion between Port Clinton and Jim Thorpe, so passengers could experience the fall foliage in Carbon & Schuylkill counties. The foliage was indeed spectacular, and the crew of #425 put on an awesome show as we follow along trackside. This video features many runbys as well as scenes from the turntable area in Jim Thorpe. This video is about one hour long.
